more from ozsaur, The Penitence Series [Nov. 23rd, 2004|10:04 pm]

Title: Penitence Series
Author: Mrs. Hamill
Email: thamill@coxx.rr.com
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jim/Blair pre-slash?
Summary: A series in which Jim's head is shrunk
Direct Link:
Author's Page: http://www.squidge.org/~foxsden/kitchen/terrisindex.html

Reason for Recommending: I like this story for the emotional impact. The series works on two levels for me, the first with Jim working through his problems, digging up truths that he'd kept hidden even from himself, learning how to talk about his problems to Blair etc. The second is seeing Blair through Jim's eyes. Jim describes a dream in the first story that is fairly graphic, but keep going, the rest of the stories are not so angsty.

Learning Curve, rec from ozsaur [Nov. 22nd, 2004|05:52 am]

Title: Learning Curve and Truth, Death and Donuts: Learning Curve 2
Author: Antimony Hayes
Email: ahayes@storyteller.org
Rating: PG
Pairing: Jim/Blair pre-slash
Summary: Early days yet in their partnership.
Direct Link: http://www.squidge.org/archive/archive/1_2000_firsts/learningcurve.html
Author's Page: None that I could find. If anyone knows if she has a web page, please leave a link in the comments.

Reasons for Recommending: The overall mood in these stories is so refreshing, there is such a feeling of optimism and newness to them. Jim and Blair are still at an early stage of their partnership. They don't really know each other very well and are still learning new things about each other. The humor and playfulness between them rings so true.

Almost A Sentinel, rec from ozsaur [Nov. 18th, 2004|07:34 pm]

Title: Almost a Sentinel
Author: Sealie
Email: sealie@trickster.org or sealie1@hotmail.com
Rating: PG-13 for violence
Pairing: Gen
Summary: They are not Sentinels, but what are they?
Direct Link: http://www.trickster.org/storybook/aas.html
Author's Page: http://www.trickster.org/storybook/sealie_stories.htm

Reason for Recommending: This is a xover but you don't need to be familiar with The Champions in order to read this story. I've never heard of them before reading this and it wasn't a problem. This is a long, action-packed read, the kind of page turner novel you can't put down once you get started. The plot is intriguing, the exotic locations are well drawn, and the characters are well drawn. I enjoyed her vivid writing style.

I had a hard time deciding which of her stories to recommend, most of them tend toward supernatural horror, which I like, but I didn't want to go overboard reccing those types of stories. This one is strictly action adventure. If that isn't your cup 'o tea then try her Library Series or Bag of Bones.

Kissing Friends (series), rec from ozsaur [Nov. 11th, 2004|09:39 pm]

(I don't know how much time I'll have this weeekend, so here's another great rec from Ozsaur)

Title: Kissing Friends Series
Author: Basingstoke
Email: bas@yosa.com
LJ: basingstoke
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Jim/Blair preslash
Summary: Repressed!Jim meets Tenacious!Blair
Direct Links:

Author's Page: http://www.ravenswing.com/~bas/slash/slashindex.html

Reason for Recommending: These stories are almost all dialogue, so good I can almost hear them talking like this. I love the interaction between Jim and Blair, the flirting, the slow simmer. Who can resist Jim playing hard to get?

Rec from ozsaur, The Wrong End of the Story [Nov. 8th, 2004|04:53 am]

Title: The Wrong End of the Story
Authors: Julad and Calico
Email: julad@yearningvoid.net, cal@yearningvoid.net
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Summary: It was a dark and stormy night...
Direct Link: http://www.yearningvoid.net/julad/wrongend.html
Authors Pages: http://www.yearningvoid.net/stories/julad/ and http://www.yearningvoid.net/calico/

Reasons for Recommending: I know Halloween is over, but I couldn't resist recommending this story anyway. This spooky story. It sure as hell scared me, but then again, I read it late at night, with the only light in the house coming from my computer screen. The scariness works on a couple of different levels, first from the horror story Jim tells and second from the actual danger Jim and Blair find themselves in. The writing itself is so vivid, you can picture the events unfolding like a movie.

(This is one of my favorites too, a *deeply* disturbing piece of writing...)

rec from ozsaur: Sensual Rhythms [Nov. 6th, 2004|06:46 am]

Title: Sensual Rhythms
Author: the lady of shallot
Email: shallot@intimations.org
Live Journal: astalat
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Summary: Oshun takes and interest in the lives of a very clueless Sentinel and Guide
Direct Link: Sensual Rhythms
Author's Page: http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/

Reason for Recommending: They should add Hubbalicious to the rating system. NC-17 sounds so clinical and just doesn't really do justice to a story as sexy, as fun or as sensual as this one.

Some late Hallowe'en recs [Nov. 5th, 2004|04:08 pm]

How could I have forgotten these! One gen, one slash, but the borders are a bit blurred.

Author: Taleya
Title: Pumpkin Patch Pervert
Direct Link to Story: http://www.squidge.org/archive/archive/humor2/pumpkinpatch.html
Warnings: It's about an R. And don't drink while reading

Based on a true story

"Oh, this pumpkin?" the guy looked down as if he had never seen one before. "Um...what am I doing? I don't know what I'm doing. Do you know what I'm doing?"
"It looks like you're performing an act of public indecency, sir." Bland vanilla was envious.
"With a pumpkin? What kind of sicko do you think I am?
The man sighed and plucked his pumpkin, laying it at his feet. "Damn. It didn't used to be a pumpkin. Must be midnight"

Author: Suisan R.
Title: Pumpkin Patch Pervert The Sequel
Direct Link to Story: http://hometown.aol.com/suisan/PPPTS.htm
Warnings: It's about a PG-13. And don't drink while reading

The blonde reached out and whapped him on the shoulder, “They’re for my sister.” Taking the small stack that he held out, she smiled serenely, then leaned in closer to him. “I prefer the strawberry ones myself.” Her voice was low and smoky, carrying no further than the edge of Jim’s desk.

But the comment had the desired effect, one that was caught on videotape for all posterity, for no one had ever seen James Ellison blush quite that hard before.

Coming Up for Air, rec from ozsaur [Nov. 4th, 2004|09:43 pm]

ozsaur emailed me to suggest doing a few recs, and I thought since I still have posting access to this comm I'd tell her to go ahead. She's sent me a couple things that I'll put up over the next few days...

(And again, if anyone else wants to send anything to me I'll post that too.)

Title: Coming up for Air Series

Monday recs, from gardendoor [Sep. 27th, 2004|05:56 pm]

And for my last week, I thought I'd send you guys off with THREE really
great ones. Enjoy!

Title Of Story:Clinging to the Wheel
Author E-mail: Dasha_mte@yahoo.com
Story Rating: (G)
Summary: Blair find himself adrift.
Warnings: Character death ... sort of.
Direct Link (to the story):

Reason For Recommending -- This is definitely a story off the beaten path:
Blair dies and is reincarnated (if it becomes clear in the first paragraph, it's hardly a spoiler!) and has to make his way in the world as a hyper, often frustrated, toddler. Probably one of the best stories I've read about the depth of feeling between Jim and Blair.
